LEADER / CLLD
Local Development through Local Community Initiative (LIDC/CLLD), based on the LEADER approach, is a method of designing and implementing local integrated development strategies, involving partners at local level, in order to effectively address the economic, social, environmental and demographic challenges facing rural areas.
It is a particularly powerful tool for local communities:
(a) take firm steps towards more effective forms of economic, sustainable and inclusive growth, in line with the Europe 2020 strategy,
(b) to ‘innovate’ in order to address the socio-economic problems of the rural areas of the country; and
(c) to strengthen social cohesion in rural areas.
50 LEADER local development programmes in rural areas
The integrated development strategies are implemented through 50 local programmes selected to be implemented in rural areas of the country, mainly at regional unit level, by the Local Action Groups (LAGs), which are local public-private partnerships.
The local programmes are structured around three sub-measures:
19.2: ‘Private-sector interventions and other provisions for the implementation of local programmes’.
19.3: “Support for the preparation and implementation of interregional and transnational partnerships”.
19.4: ‘Support for operating costs and promotion’.
